Upcoming Volunteer Events
Boo at the Zoo - We will be volunteering at this year's Boo at The Zoo at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo on Sunday, October 24th from 3pm- 8:30pm. We will be dressing up in costumes and handing out candy! If you are interested in joining us at this volunteer activity, please email Madisyn Gullo ASAP as we are required to register each attendant.
Mentor/Mentee Program - BSNA is coordinating the mentor/mentee program again! If you are a freshman nursing student taking pre-requisite courses and are looking for a bit of guidance, we are here to help. Similarly, if you are an upper classman nursing student in the program and are interested in working with a mentee, please reach out. Email Anna Weisensee at aweisens@uccs.edu to get involved or if you have any questions!

Brrrr! It's ❄freezing❄ out there! But cold weather doesn't stop our amazing volunteers at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. Nursing students dressed up in various Halloween costumes and volunteered at Boo at the Zoo! This is an annual event that allows children to visit the zoo and collect candy from various sponsors.
The Go Red for Women Luncheon is the American Heart Association's national movement to end heart disease and stroke in women. We volunteered at this gala on September 27, 2019, at the Antler’s Hotel by helping to check-in participants. Thank you to all who volunteered at this event!
The 6th Annual Trek the Trail is a 5K walk/run to benefit student scholarships. This event fosters leadership opportunities, is a zero-waste event concentrating on sustainability. It is also the official UCCS Homecoming 5K and is the only trail-based walk/run hosted by UCCS. We volunteered at this event on September 28, 2019, by setting up the trail cones, directing runners, and encouraging participants. Thank you to all the great volunteers at this event!
The Kidney Walk is a community fundraising event for the prevention of kidney disease and to draw attention to the need for kidney donors. BSNA volunteered at this event on September 22, 2019 and provided first aid to the runners and preformed blood pressure screenings. Thank you to those who helped volunteer at this event!
The first-ever Beth-El Blood Drives have been hosted by BSNA at University Hall with the help of Bonfils Blood Center! We have collected 47 units of blood between the two drives so far, that is enough blood to save and enhance the lives of up to 141 local patients! We hope to continue this new tradition of giving such a precious donation.
Climb for Courage was a stair climb race and family festival held at the U.S. Airforce Academy's Falcon Stadium on June 25, 2016. This amazing event was hosted by Children's Hospital of Colorado to raise money to build a comprehensive children's hospitals and expand on the many needed Pediatric services for our area. The event raised $158,000 for this cause. It was a great honor for Beth El Student Nursing Association (BSNA) to contribute to the event on behalf of Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Science. It was a very exciting event to take part through our donation as well as running the race that consisted of 2,700 stairs! We hope to do more events like this in the future!
On June 4th, 2016, the Nursing department walked hand-in-hand with the Health Sciences department to raise awareness and money for heart disease and stroke research. The Heart Walk is an annual opportunity for the Southern Colorado community to come together, increase awareness, and raise money to help improve the lives of Americans while reducing deaths from heart disease and stroke. Our combined teams contributed over $2000 to this worthy cause, earning us 9th place out of the 25+ groups for most funds raised! One of our team members, Daniel Luu, raised $1000 personally, which earned him recognition for being a Top Walker! Thanks all who contributed and supported us!
On November 7th, over 30 Beth-El student nurses went out to the Pikes Peak International Raceway to volunteer at the Lantern Festival for the first time. At the Lantern Fest, thousands of community members join together to light the sky with 100% biodegradable lanterns. Everyone enjoyed live music, dancing, s'mores, and of course, watching the lanterns float away in an unforgettable release. Our volunteers helped make this magical event possible by setting up, assembling equipment, assisting participants to light their lanterns, and more.
This year marked the 3rd year that Beth-El students and faculty have volunteered at the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo. We were invited back to this event after making a great impression on the Rodeo Board and Summit Catering Managers for the past 2 years. Over 20 Beth-El students worked alongside Summit Catering in the VIP room to help stock the buffet line, fill beverages, clear plates, and provide excellent customer service. During the four nights of the rodeo, not only did volunteers have fun while representing our school, but they also made great connections with many important figures in our community.
